English Grammar

English is probably the most widely used language in the world. English, in many countries including India is used as the official language. Business transactions, job interviews, dissemination of scientific and technical data, the proceedings of law courts, Parliament and the administrative machinery as a whole, as well as the communication between State and Centre and between States themselves are all conducted through the medium of English.

The many varieties of English spoken around the world differ mainly in pronunciation and to a lesser extent in vocabulary, and those aspects of language tend to give indications of speaker’s geographical links. But things are very different with grammar. There is remarkably little dispute about what is grammatical and what isn’t. The grammar of Standard English is much more stable and uniform than its pronunciation.
