Word of the Day

The better vocabulary we have, the easier we can describe our thoughts in a particular language. Moreover a good vocabulary is also helpful in entrance exams like SSC, Bank, CAT, IAS etc.  Vocabulary can’t be learnt or enriched overnight. You have to make a conscious and determined effort to improve. Learn a new word (or set of words)  every day and revise it (them)  frequently. Learn a new word each day with our Word of the Day section. In this section a new word is added daily to the list along with its meaning, pronunciation, usage, synonyms and antonyms.

 

6. Exasperating (adjective)

अर्थ – उत्तेजक, तंग करनेवाला

Meaning
i. extremely annoying or displeasing

Example: Consumers are sometimes faced with a situation in which the burden of responsibility shifts from one service provider to another, leaving the consumer in an exasperating situation.

Synonyms
Aggravating, infuriating, disturbing, maddening, Antagonizing, irking, bothersome, troublesome, displeasing, vexing, galling, pestering

Antonyms
Pleasing, delightful



5. Demeanour (noun)

अर्थ – आचरण

Meaning

Outward behavior, way of behaving

Example – He had a very calm demeanour and was very humble.

Synonyms

Manner, attitude, appearance, bearing, behavior, conduct

Antonyms

Hiding, disappearing



4. Plagiarism

अर्थ : साहित्यिक चोरी करना

Meaning

The practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own.

Example : Researchers will be punished for plagiarism in research papers.

Falsification, stealing, infringement, piracy, theft, counterfeit, copying, forgery, cribbed

3. Demure (adjective)

अर्थ – संकोची, शर्मीला, संजीदा, शांत

Meaning

Modest and reserved in manner or behavior.

Example: Though everyone else at the party was dancing and going crazy, she remained demure.

Reserved, modest, shy, serious, coy, meek, bashful, humble, decorous

Antonyms

Shameless, bazen , bold, brave, extroverted, aggressive, outgoing



2. Asymptomatic (adjective)

अर्थ : स्पर्शोन्मुख, बीमारी या बीमारी के कोई लक्षण नहीं होना

Meaning

Having no symptoms of illness or disease

Example: He initially was asymptomatic, but developed fever and cough after one day and reported to the Hospital on March 7

1. Exonerate

अर्थ- दोष या अपराध से मुक्त करना

Meaning

i. To clear from accusation, blame or fault.

ii. release someone form a duty or obligation

Example:  China has exonerated a doctor who was officially reprimanded for warning about the coronavirus outbreak and later died of the disease.

Absolve, acquit, clear, discharge, exempt, forgive, liberate, pardon, set free

Antonyms

Accuse, charge, convict, obligate, inculpate, oblige
